The Ammotiser – Round 1 2016 (Netball)

2015 was a successful season for the netball club with three senior and 1 junior premier- ships being won. 2016 is shaping up to be another great season and we have high expectations.

2016 sees the appointment of a new netball president, with Dean Lupton handing the reigns over to Hayley Mooney and we thank Dean for his hard work over the past 2 years. Hayley is already doing a fantastic job and implementing new initiatives into the netball section. She is supportive of all coaches, which assists tremendously and goes a long way towards the success of the netball teams.

Screen-Shot-2016-04-01-at-11.54.53-am-300x261After only a 9 week rest, senior training commenced on the 11th of November and was kicked off with a Netfit session with ex Championship player Sarah Wall. Over 20 players attended the session and they enjoyed learning new drills and were given tips on training, injury prevention and looking after their body.

Strong numbers continued throughout preseason, and it was pleasing to see quite a few new faces at the club. Senior trials were conducted late Jan, early Feb and teams have now been selected. Each team has a wonderful amount of depth which will prove important come finals time. For success this year, a strong focus will be put on teamwork and ensuring all players are aware they have a role in the team and that noth- ing short of a team effort will win the grand final.

Practice matched have been played against the Geelong Cougars, Bell Park and Leopold and team structures are starting to come together. All players are looking forward to the first game against Queenscliff and getting the season started.
