The Ammotiser – Round 1 2016 (Football)

Welcome to everyone for season 2016, to all supporters and sponsors I hope you are all looking forward to it as much as we are.

It’s been an exciting off season for the club, Rowan McSparron is returning as senior coach along with assistants Simon Sutterby and Anthony Koch. Nathan Rau will again coach our reserves side with John Chapman assisting him after a successful stint in charge of our U/18 side. We are also pleased to welcome back James Welsh to the club, he will lead our U/18 side and has also been appointed Junior Coaching Director. He will be assisted by long time Ammos players Josh Logan & Chris Taylor.

With a few more departures than anticipated we were quite active in replacing some key players that exited the club, we believe we have certainly recruited very well and with our already outstanding playing group we are very happy with the squad we’ve put together. Returning Ammos juniors have always been the priority when looking to build our list each year and we have been lucky enough to have a number of ex Ammos juniors return to the club where it all started. We welcome back Blair Kelly, Trent Weber, Hugh Hunter, Ben & Kristian Bucovaz and Jack Kershaw. Other signings include Micah Buchanan (Colac) & Hamish Dahl (East Brighton) along with returning Ammos players Tom Balding & Brad King (St Joseph’s) & Zac Jones (Wodonga Bulldogs.

Pre- season has been fantastic and we can see the playing group are super keen to get stuck into Queenscliff for round 1 this weekend. We started training back in late November and from the coaching group we certainly couldn’t have asked more from the players and how they’ve gone about it, fitness levels we believe are where they need to be, we have got through the pre- season with limited injuries and are have had a couple of good practice matches against Colac and Inverleigh. We encourage all support- ers to come and have a look at how the boys are shaping up for the start of the year.

One of the most pleasing things to come out of the pre season is the number of younger players we’ve added to the group, we are really excited to see these boys play throughout the season. A number of U/18’s boys have spent a fair bit of time with the senior group and certainly haven’t looked out of place and will get opportunities to play senior football throughout the year.

We look forward to the year ahead and seeing you all down at Queenscliff this weekend. ‘Ammos 2016’…Ben Hunter
